Gentlemen, forty-one years ago, G-SHOCK exploded onto the scene like a… well, like a watch dropped from a three-story building and still ticking. The DW5000C was born of “Project Team Tough,” which sounds less like watchmaking and more like a Cold War spy operation. Fast forward to today, and the DW5000R-1A Watch ($200) arrives as a tribute. It’s like the original, but slightly bigger (because gents are bigger now, apparently). Stainless steel core? Check. Bio-resin shell? Eco-friendly and tough? They’ve thought of everything.
Inside, it’s rocking a ‘Module 3576’ – light years ahead of the original ‘Module 240’, thank goodness. LED light? Stopwatch? Alarm? It’s got the modern bells and whistles, cleverly disguised in vintage cool. For the gent who appreciates a classic, but also might accidentally drop his watch in a pool (at 200m depth, just to be clear). The G-Shock DW5000R-1A – it’s tougher than your dad’s stories, and looks way better too.
